2000+ lawyers got caught doing this

I have a confession.

I'm the lawyer who spends a ton of time warning people about AI legal fails. And yet, I've still opened ChatGPT to test-drive a few sentences of legal language, just to see what it would spit out.

You know what? It sounded convincing. And that's the problem.

ChatGPT, and even some paid legal AI tools, can hand you a contract clause or a refund policy that reads about 95% right. But the 5% it misses? That’s where things go sideways.

That 5% can:

  • Turn a refund policy into a client dispute
  • Leave out a critical compliance requirement
  • Mislead you with outdated or made-up legal citations (yes, even attorneys are getting burned by this)

Here’s the part that really stunned me: there's a public database now tracking real court cases where judges caught lawyers, and self-represented people, submitting AI-generated legal content.

The count is climbing fast. As of this month, it’s caught 2035 cases.

A few patterns show up again and again:

  • Fake case citations that don't exist anywhere (the most common issue by far)
  • Old laws or rules cited as if they're still current
  • Quotes attributed to real cases that were never actually said
  • Even "top-tier" legal research tools that quietly built generative AI into their results

Penalties have ranged from a few thousand dollars in sanctions to state bar referrals. Some attorneys have taken a real hit to their professional reputation over it.

AI doesn't understand the law. It predicts what sounds legal. It doesn't verify what's actually correct. Those are two very different things, and the gap between them is where lawsuits live.

So here's what I don't want. I don't want you rereading every sentence of your contract wondering if ChatGPT quietly steered you wrong. I don't want you Googling your way through a compliance question at 11pm.

That's exactly why we built The Fine Print Academy™.

Inside, real attorneys walk you through your contracts and policies live, every week. You get plain-English answers to your actual legal questions, not a template and a "good luck."

No more wondering if AI is quietly getting it wrong in your paperwork. No more piecing together compliance advice from forum posts. Just an actual legal team who knows how your business runs and can help you see the right next step.
