Does your website have this one thing? (It’s important)

As your business grows, your legal responsibilities grow with it.

Many online business owners set up their Privacy Policy once and rarely revisit it. But over time, data practices evolve. You may add a new email platform, integrate additional tracking tools, begin using a CRM, expand into paid advertising, or sell into new states or countries. Each of those changes can affect what your Privacy Policy is required to disclose.

Your website is often the first place regulators, partners, or dissatisfied customers look when questions arise. A clear, accurate, and compliant Privacy Policy is a foundational part of protecting your business and maintaining trust with your audience.

At a minimum, your Privacy Policy should clearly explain:

✅ What personal data you collect (like emails or payment info)
✅ Why you collect it
✅ Who you share it with (like your email provider or payment processor)
✅ How visitors can request or delete their data
✅ How to opt out or unsubscribe
✅ Whether you sell data or allow third parties to collect info
✅ Visitors’ rights under U.S. and EU privacy laws

Depending on your annual revenue and the volume of personal data you process from residents of certain states, additional state privacy laws may apply to your business.

I recommend taking a few minutes this week to review your Privacy Policy carefully.

If you can't remember when it was last updated, or if it does not clearly address the points above, it may be time to make an update.
